Bees in nature

Honey_Group.jpg

Most wild and cultivated plants depend on bees or other insects for pollination. In fact, it is estimated that around one third of the human food supply chain depends on bees to pollinate crops. Commercial crops such as kiwifruit, raspberries and grapes are pollinated each year at the beginning of their growing season by bees, enabling fruit to grow.

Bees are a vital part of the world’s ecosystem and can be found everywhere in the world. They are a very special species and protecting bees is fundamental for environmental sustainability.

As Barry Donovan, entomologist and author said:

“Only by conserving and enhancing all species of bees can we protect our own well being and that of the planet as a whole.”
