Kerry and Frazer: "We began beekeeping 10 years ago. At the time we were looking for a family friendly, outdoor, self employment opportunity. We noticed in our local paper that 400 beehives were for sale and we jumped in at the deep end and bought them! We knew nothing about keeping bees at this stage and so were on a rapid learning curve."

Kerry and Frazer: "We have always had an interest in the environment, healthy living and organic food. Obtaining organic certification for our business was a natural progression for us.

Our beekeeping operation has remained small scale and is all within Golden Bay at the top of the South island of New Zealand. The hives border both Kahurangi and Abel Tasman National Parks. We are passionate about our bees and so pleased that we took the great leap into the world of bees!"

Rata flowering varies from year to year. Some years there are no flowers at all. Years where there is prolific flowering result in a very pale coloured honey. Our Northern rata honey is collected from bees in the Kahurangi National Park, Golden Bay, South Island.
