In 1975 Lorraine started beekeeping with just a few hives. Her main occupation at this time was sheep shearing and beekeeping provided her with a little extra income. As time went on her beekeeping business grew and at its peak she was managing 800 hives.
At present she has approximately 600 hives sited within a 30km radius of Oxford in North Canterbury, this area encompasses both the Mount Thomas and the Mount Oxford foothills.
