Profile
The New Zealand native Kamahi tree (Weinmannia racemosa) flowers in spring time in the native beech forests inland on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Kamahi is one of New Zealand’s most abundant trees growing on the forest canopy surrounded by other natives. Its small white spikey flowers are a favourite for honeybees. This remote and native environment produces our very pure NZ Artisan Kamahi Honey.
Tasting Notes & Vintage
Harvested in Summer 09.
West Coast Kamahi Honey is a pale buttery golden colour. It is a smooth honey with a lanolin aroma and a herbal, slightly nutty flavour with rich, malty and smokey notes. A good sweetener for spicy dishes, such as Thai, as it has a flavour slightly reminiscent of palm sugar. An excellent match with white mould cheeses with foresty, mushroom flavours such as Camembert and Brie as well as goats milk cheeses.
