Profile
Vipers Bugloss is a wild flower that grows in dry, mountainous valleys and rivers. It thrives in the Clarence Valley nestled amongst the 6000ft Kaikoura Ranges in central Marlborough in New Zealand’s South Island. The rugged valley known for its hot, dry summers.
Muzzle station is a remote 30,000 hectare high-country sheep and cattle station in the heart of the Clarence Valley. It is one of the most isolated stations in New Zealand. Muzzle station is only accessible by road on a four-wheel drive track that reaches 4000 feet and is impassable in winter due to snow or by air in a light plane when the weather is good.
From December to March, vivid blue fields of tall Vipers Bugloss wildflowers cover the mountain and riversides across the valley.
Tasting Notes & Vintage
Harvested in April 2009, a hot dry summer created a very pure Vipers Bugloss honey from J.Friend & Co.
Clarence Valley Vipers Bugloss Honey is a rich buttery colour. It is a very sweet delicate honey with a distinctive vanilla taste, light pollen and floral notes. It is a good all-round honey. Mild enough for most cooking it will add delicate honey flavours to any dish, sweet or savoury. A good match for strongly flavoured cheeses such as blues, hard cheese such as aged Cheddar or Parmesan or even pungent washed rind cheese.
